The Beverly Hospital Breast Health Center's professional
Certified Breast Patient Navigator (CBPN) is specially trained and
exceptionally qualified to guide the Center's patients and their
families through every step of their care. Her skills as an
educator, coordinator and support person are instrumental in
decreasing the fear, anxiety and uncertainty that often accompany
the need to navigate an unfamiliar healthcare system.
The CBPN's role is multi-faceted and will vary from patient to
patient, depending on individual circumstances and needs. She
establishes close relationships with people who have a variety of
issues, from those who are simply worried about their breast
health, to those with benign breast disease, to those who have been
diagnosed with breast cancer. She is available to:
- Guide the individual through a free, personalized Breast Cancer
Risk Assessment in a one-on-one environment
- Listen to, discuss and address specific concerns about breast
health
- Follow up with individuals whose screening mammograms indicate
the need for further evaluation
- Provide genetic counseling and explain the results of genetic
testing
- Ensure that the channels of communication-among the team, with
the patient and family, and with the patient's primary care
provider-are open and effective
- Help in any other way possible
With the CBPN as their "go to" person, patients feel secure that
their care is well coordinated and that they will be well-prepared
for the next steps in their care.
