Overview
Advanced training and technology help Beverly and Addison
Gilbert hospitals treat emergency department patients faster than
ever. These emergency departments provide the local communities
with a dedicated emergency care team that includes board-certified
emergency medicine physicians and specialty trained emergency
nurses. Patients seeking care at Beverly and Addison Gilbert
hospitals have access to advanced life support, intensive care
capabilities, and a wide range of doctors specially trained in
areas such as pediatrics, cardiology and anesthesia.
Both Addison Gilbert and Beverly hospitals are Primary Stroke
Service Hospitals. This designation means that both hospitals meet
the criteria required to provide a high level of stroke care to
patients. This means that the hospitals have available diagnostic
and therapeutic services from a multidisciplinary team and that
team is acessible 24-hours a day, seven days a week to patients
presenting with symptoms of acute stroke.
Primary Stroke Service Hospitals also have the resources and
ability to administer tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), a
"clot-busting" drug used for some acute strokes. Generally,
patients who present quickly to the Emergency Department may be
eligible for this medication. tPA can be administered within a
three hour window from the onset of symptoms. Patients must be
carefully screened to ensure they qualify for administration of
this medication that can restore blood flow by reopening the
blocked artery.
Beverly Hospital's emergency department offers Fast Track, a program
that provides a dedicated staff to care for patients with minor
injuries and illnesses. The service treats patients with sprains,
flu, cuts and other minor injuries with the same care and
technology as those patients with life-threatening injuries.
Additionally, physicians from Children's Hospital Boston
offering specially trained, advanced care right here on the North
Shore staff Beverly
Hospital's pediatric emergency service.
