Pediatric Emergency Services
Beverly Hospital has opened a Pediatric Emergency Service within the hospital's Emergency Department. The Service is a collaboration between Beverly Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston. It provides evaluation, treatment and stabilization of children with a variety of medical problems, ranging from mild acute illness to minor trauma to major emergencies.
The Pediatric Emergency Service is staffed and equipped to care for children of all ages, from newborns to adolescents. Patients requiring admission following treatment in the Emergency Service can be hospitalized on Beverly Hospital's pediatric inpatient unit, also staffed by Children's physicians.
Overseeing the service is Karen Gruskin, MD, Beverly Hospital's Director of Pediatrics. Dr. Gruskin is a physician of Children's Hospital Boston who is board-certified in pediatrics as well as pediatric emergency medicine. She oversees all aspects of the Children's Hospital Physicians at Beverly Hospital program.
"The Pediatric Emergency Service treats all levels of pediatric emergency; from the youngster with a broken arm to the pre-teen transported by ambulance following a serious car accident," says Dr. Gruskin.
The Pediatric Emergency Service demonstrates Beverly Hospital's commitment to provide high quality, child-focused services to North Shore families, and is an important addition to Beverly Hospital's continuum of maternal and child care services.
Since 1997, Beverly Hospital has enjoyed a successful partnership with Children's Hospital Boston. Through this unique collaboration, Children's physicians located on site at Beverly Hospital coordinate both inpatient care and outpatient specialty services. Specialists in cardiology, gastroenterology, general surgery, neurology, and pulmonary medicine all conduct office hours at Beverly Hospital. In addition, Children's neonatologists, who provide medical care for sick and premature newborns, staff the Beverly Hospital's Level II Special Care Nursery. Children's physicians work in conjunction with Beverly Hospital's primary care physicians to care for children at the hospital.
