Breast-Feeding Program
Lactation Consultants
Each consultant on staff is a registered nurse, board-certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultants. They offer our families an exceptional resource before birth, in the hospital setting and after discharge.
Childbirth Preparation Package - Prenatal Breast-feeding Class
A prenatal breast-feeding class is offered to all of our pregnant families as part of our comprehensive Childbirth Preparation Package. This is a one evening class scheduled late in your pregnancy, providing a comprehensive overview of topics such as: Preparation, first feedings and your newborn, positioning, frequency, reducing soreness, pumping milk and returning to work while still breast-feeding.
In the Hospital
All mothers are encouraged to meet a lactation consultant during our daily class on the Beautiful Beginnings unit. Lactation consultants are also available for individual assistance seven days a week.
Lactation Center for Breast-feeding Mothers
Our assistance to you does not end with your discharge home. Our Lactation Center for breast-feeding mothers provides services after discharge, by appointment. Available to all mothers discharged from the Beautiful Beginnings unit, the lactation center offers a comfortable, private environment for a one-to-one session with a lactation consultant.
B.R.E.A.S.T. Connection
This program is facilitated by a certified Lactation Consultant. It is offered on Tuesday mornings from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. This time is available for any mother who needs extra suport for breast-feeding or would like to get their baby weighed. No registration is required. However, there is a $10 fee which covers the consultation and the MotherTalk group that follows.
MotherTalk Group
Our weekly MotherTalk group, facilitated by a lactation consultant, explores any topic or issue new mothers may wish to discuss about the transition to parenthood and questions that arise after going home. It is our goal to provide support, encouragement and advise so that each woman's mothering experience is positive and rewarding. You do not need to be a breast-feeding mom to enjoy this group. All aspects of mothering are discussed.

Breast-feeding Boutique
Our North Shore Birth Center houses a Breast-feeding Boutique, offering breast pumps for sale or rent, along with nursing bras, breast-feeding supplies and replacement parts for pumps. The lactation consultants can arrange pump rentals for families on the maternity unit or who have a newborn in the Special Care Nursery. The boutique is located at Beverly Hospital's Parent Education Office on the third floor. It is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The phone number is 978.927.9103 if you would like to schedule an appointment for a bra fitting with our certified staff.
