Women’s Imaging

Our experts are proud to offer the latest in imaging services for gynecologic conditions. These imaging procedures allow us to accurately diagnose and effectively treat the full range of women’s health concerns.

Bone Densitometry

A bone densitometry, also known as a dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) scan, is a quick, painless procedure. This is an enhanced form of X-ray technology that doctors use to measure bone loss.

Your doctor may recommend a bone densitometry to determine if you have osteoporosis or other bone loss. The amount of radiation that a DEXA scan uses is extremely small — less than one-tenth the dose of a standard chest X-ray.

Digital Mammography

We offer the most advanced breast imaging technology available today, including 3D mammography. Research has shown that 3D mammography is better than film-based, analog X-rays for many patients. Learn more about our mammogram services.

Hysterosalpingogram

A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is a radiology test that uses dye and X-rays to evaluate the uterus and fallopian tubes. Doctors usually use this test in women who are having trouble getting pregnant.

Breast Biopsy

Physical exams, mammograms and other imaging studies can often detect lumps or abnormalities in the breast. However, it’s not always possible to tell from these imaging tests whether a growth is benign (harmless) or cancerous. To make a diagnosis, your doctor can use biopsy, or the removal of a small tissue sample for close analysis in the lab. Read more about breast biopsy services at Beverly Hospital.

Pelvic MRI

Your gynecologist may recommend a pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) if they think you may have ovarian lesions, endometriosis, pelvic mass, tumor or other gynecologic condition.

Ultrasound-Guided Cyst Aspiration

If you have a breast cyst, your doctor may recommend an ultrasound-guided cyst aspiration. During the procedure, a breast radiologist uses ultrasound to locate the cyst. Then, they place a small needle directly into the cyst and remove fluid. The fluid from the cyst drains into a syringe and the cyst collapses. Depending on the appearance of the fluid, the radiologist may discard it or send it to the lab for more testing.

Uterine Fibroid Embolization

A uterine fibroid embolization is a procedure that shrinks fibroids (non-cancerous growths of muscle tissue) in the uterus by cutting off their blood supply.
