The Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine

Acute Care Services 

978.816.2670  The Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine provides services for individuals who require hospitalization for an illness or surgery in addition to those services we provide for individuals living in the community.

Team Approach

Our Physical and Occupational therapy staff working with physicians, nurses and case managers provide a team approach to patient care. 

Our primary goals are to improve patient's mobility and help them achieve their previous level of independence for activities of daily living (ADL's) in order to facilitate a safe and appropriate discharge from the hospital. 

Physical Therapy Services

• Training on getting in and out of bed
• Gait training
• Range of motion and strengthening exercises
• Balance training
• Endurance training
• Patient and family education 

Occupational Therapy Services

• Upper extremity range of motion and strengthening exercises
• Fine motor coordination training
• Education regarding compensatory strategies to maximize ability to care for oneself
• Adaptive equipment and splinting
• ADL training such as bathing, dressing and eating
• Assessment of cognitive functioning related to attention, memory and problem solving 

Speech Therapy Services

Our Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) work in conjunction with a radiologist to rule out aspiration or other deficits in the oral and/or throat cavities by performing modified barium swallow studies. Our staff will work with patients and their families to modify diet textures and consistencies and create safe swallow strategies to prevent aspiration and prevent malnutrition or dehydration while patients are in the hospital and make recommendations for care once patients return home.
