Construction Starts For Addison Gilbert Hospital’s Gorton’s Specialty and Cancer Care Center
(Gloucester, MA) - Construction is underway at Addison Gilbert Hospital to complete the much-anticipated Gorton’s Specialty and Cancer Care Center. The $1.4 million construction project will offer Cape Ann residents a state-of-the-art, comfortable, private setting to receive cancer treatment and other cancer-related care.
Currently scheduled to open on November 1, 2008, the new space--part of the Lundberg Medical Arts Floor, named in honor of long time Gloucester surgeon Dr. Robert Lundberg--is being renovated to include both an Oncology Suite and Specialty Suite. The Oncology Suite will include private treatment areas, including 10 infusion stations with views of the Annisquam River for patients receiving chemotherapy treatment. These efficient, comfortable and private stations will also include space for family members to accompany patients during treatment. In addition, the Oncology Suite will include examination rooms, physician offices and a new patient and family waiting area. The Specialty Suite will house physician offices and examination and procedure rooms for patient appointments with visiting specialists in surgery, orthopedics, urology, endocrinology, gastroenterology and cardiovascular medicine.
“It is wonderful to see businesses and members of the North Shore community come together to support this important expansion of services at Addison Gilbert Hospital,” said Susan Samperi, president of Northeast Health Foundation, the non-profit organization which builds philanthropic support for Addison Gilbert Hospital, among others. “This beautiful, new center will be designed to meet both the physical and emotional needs of patients undergoing cancer treatment and receiving other cancer-related care at Addison Gilbert Hospital.”
In addition to leadership support from Gorton’s, other local banks and businesses have contributed to the fundraising efforts for the new center, including Cape Ann Savings Bank, Carol K. Steele Insurance, Sudbay Motors, Isabel Babson Memorial, Inc., Rockport National Bank, and Gloucester Cooperative Bank. Gloucester residents Jan and Robert Crandall, Jane and Mike Fonzo, Sue Kyle, Shawn Wilson and an anonymous individual have also made significant donations to the project. Contributions total nearly $900,000 to date, including gifts from Lyons Ambulance Service in Danvers, TD Banknorth, and Viga Eatery in Boston, as well as many generous individuals throughout Cape Ann and the North Shore.
