(Beverly, MA) - Northeast Hospital Corporation, which is made up of Beverly Hospital, Addison Gilbert Hospital, the Beverly Hospital Hunt Center and Bayridge Hospital, celebrated annual National Nurses Week May 6-12, 2007. More than 220 nurses attended a special Nurses Week dinner, held at the Danversport Yacht Club on Wednesday, May 2nd, where the theme was “Heroes.” Reverend Dr. Regina Shearer, an Executive Pastor of Zion Church Ministries, Inc. and guest speaker of the dinner, spoke about “Heroes in Healthcare” nurses as heroes and their day-to-day duties that go unnoticed to most people.

Nurses Week is celebrated in recognition of all the hard work, commitment and sacrifice nurses endure throughout the year. Their dedication, and commitment to professionalism, and providing quality patient care, make them the true spirit of caring. The four campuses, Beverly, Danvers, Gloucester, and Lynn, are comprised of many individuals that deserved to be celebrated.
“We are proud of our nurses who give so much of themselves for others,” said Greg Bird, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of patient care services at Northeast Hospital Corporation. “Their commitment to our hospitals and patients should not go unnoticed and they are truly the glue that holds our hospitals together. Our Nurse’s Week dinner celebration is a night of fun and celebration in recognition of all their hard work.”
Shearer spoke about heroes from the past and nurses as heroes. She believes a hero is, “A person noted for feats of strength or courage or nobility of purpose; especially someone who risks or sacrifices his or her life for others. A person noted for special achievement in a particular field."
Bird opened the evening saying, “Everyday, every shift, nurses at Northeast Hospitals perform heroic acts; they may be little things, they may be big things,” and he went on to give numerous examples of nurses as heroes.
