Lt. Governor Tim Murray visits Beverly Hospital at Danvers, Medical and Day Surgery Center
(Danvers, MA)-On Friday, December 21, 2007, Lt. Governor Tim Murray met with Stephen Laverty, president of Beverly Hospital, and toured the Hospital's regional outpatient care facility, Beverly Hospital at Danvers Medical and Day Surgery Center.
During his visit, the Lt. Governor had the opportunity to see first-hand the innovative healthcare facility, which houses a wide array of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services in a convenient patient-centered setting. The outpatient healthcare center, which opened mid-November, is designed to provide the North Shore with accessible, advanced care in a wide range of areas including the latest in breast health and digital mammography, chronic disease prevention and management, cardiovascular care, rehabilitation and sports medicine, among others.
"I was happy that the Lt. Governor was able to visit and tour our state-of-the-art outpatient care facility," said Stephen Laverty, president of Beverly Hospital. "We look forward to working with him in the future to find ways to preserve and expand the role of community-based medicine, especially considering the healthcare reform in Massachusetts."
After the tour, the Lt. Governor met with Mr. Laverty and Representative Ted Speliotis to discuss reducing the healthcare costs of the Commonwealth's municipalities using health programs such as Beverly Hospital's Lifestyle Management Institute (LMI).
"The Lifestyle Management Institute is a good model for preventative care and disease management," said Lieutenant Governor Murray. "We look forward to working with LMI in the future as we look to find ways to improve our health care delivery system and to control costs."
The LMI provides coordinated, comprehensive programs for the care of individuals with, or at risk for, chronic health problems such as heart disease, diabetes or osteoporosis using a team of specialists working in collaboration to reduce health risks and enhance overall health and well-being. Services encompass prevention, detection, treatment and disease management programs for patients, families and the community.
"Community based health services such as those being provided in this new facility in Danvers and the greater emphasis Beverly Hospital is placing in preventative medicine will serve in the long run to reduce costs and provide more comprehensive care on the North Shore," said Representative Ted Speliotis.
