Northeast Hospital Corporation Celebrates National Nurses’ Week
Nurses Week dinner highlights accomplishments of NHC nurses over the past year
(Beverly, MA) - On May 6-12, 2008, Northeast Hospital Corporation (NHC), which includes Beverly, Addison Gilbert and BayRidge hospitals as well as the Beverly Hospital at Danvers Medical and Day Surgery Center, celebrated National Nurses’ Week. Nurses’ Week is an event held annually to recognize and highlight the hard work and commitment involved in nursing, the largest healthcare profession.
As part of National Nurses’ Week, more than 200 nurses attended a special Nurses’ Week dinner, held at the Peabody Marriott on Friday, May 2, where the theme was “Nurses: Making a difference every day.” Nurses had the opportunity to relax and mingle, and later heard speeches from Stephen Laverty, president of NHC and Greg Bird, chief nursing officer and senior vice president of patient care services at NHC, each commending the attendees for their commitment to professionalism and dedication to providing compassionate, high-quality patient care.
“Tonight, I want you to all take the opportunity to celebrate your many accomplishments throughout NHC over the last year,” said Bird during his speech at the Nurses’ Week dinner. “Some were larger than others, but the biggest accomplishment of all is the difference that you made in the lives of our patients and their loved ones, every hour of every day. It is that daily contribution to the health and well-being of our community that you should truly be proud of.”
Included in the list of accomplishments mentioned at the dinner was the Addison Gilbert Hospital Senior Adult Unit receiving certification as an official Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders care site, which promotes best practices in geriatric nursing care. In addition, North Shore Birth Center-one of the childbirth options offered by Beverly Hospital tailored to women who are low-risk and prefer a natural approach to pregnancy and childbirth -received a Best Practice honor from the American College of Nurse Midwives Benchmarking Program.
