The general surgery department provides all aspects of care for general surgical diseases.

General surgeons perform traditional open surgery as well as advanced, minimally invasive procedures. Examples of minimally invasive surgical procedures include: laparoscopic cholecystectomy for gallbladder removal; laparoscopic hernia repair; and laparoscopic colectomy to treat colon cancer or diverticulitis by removing a portion of the colon.

Specialists in the general surgery department care for people with diagnoses including: esophageal disease; heartburn; stomach disease, including cancer; gallbladder disease; pancreatic and hepatobiliary disease; pancreatic cancer (requiring the Whipple procedure); small intestine and colon disease, including cancer; soft tissue tumors, including sarcoma; melanoma; and thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal conditions.

If you have a procedure or surgery scheduled, you will want to read our Preparing for Your Surgery or Procedure brochure which outlines what you need to know prior to and following your procedure or surgery. Click here to access the brochure.
