Weight Management Program

Lifestyle Management Institute

Obesity can adversely affect your health. Through education, exercise and counseling, this program can help you identify and modify your risk factors.  Adverse health conditions associated with obesity include:

  • Diabetes
  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • High Blood Pressure
  • High Serum Cholesterol
  • Cancer
  • Respiratory Difficulties
  • Muscular and Skeletal Problems

The Lifestyle Management Institute's Weight Management Program is available to anyone whose body mass index is greater than 40 or 35 with a comorbid condition; i.e., diabetes, hypertension, elevated cholesterol. You may enter the program through a referral from your physician.

Weight Management Evaluation

The program begins with a comprehensive evaluation by the Weight Management Team consisting of:

  • Nursing Assessment
  • Nutrition Assessment
  • Behavioral Health Assessment
  • Diagnostic Evaluation(s)

The results of your overall evaluation then become the basis for your personal weight management plan. We offer structured therapeutic exercise sessions, education classes, and both individual and group counseling. The program meets twice per week for up to 12 weeks at the Lifestyle Management Institute in Danvers.

During your therapeutic exercise sessions, we monitor your heart rate, blood pressure, and symptomatic responses. These sessions are designed to improve your flexibility and endurance and promote weight loss. In addition, we will explain what contributed to your obesity, health concerns and what you must do to improve your overall health status.

The Weight Management Team will continually assess and modify your program and is available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Maintaining Your Weight Loss

At Beverly Hospital's Lifestyle Management Institute, our primary goal is to improve the quality of your life. We consider your personal needs to ensure the road to good health is a comfortable one.

Our interdisciplinary team of professionals includes physicians, nurses, dieticians, behavioral health specialists, and exercise physiologists. Together with your doctor, we develop a program tailored to your needs and abilities. We take pride in knowing the strengths and weaknesses, hopes and dreams of each of our clients.

Upon completion of our Weight Management Program, participants may continue to participate in a maintenance program at the Lifestyle Management Institute, at home or at any local YMCA. We will teach you how to monitor yourself so you can exercise safely and with peace of mind. From aerobic exercise to healthy eating to physician lectures, our holistic approach to weight management is geared toward you and your life.
