    Inpatient Rehab at Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals

    The Center for Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine provides services for all individuals, including those who need to stay in the hospital for an illness or surgery.

    Team Approach

    Our physical, occupational and speech therapy staff work with physicians, nurses and case managers to provide a team approach to patient care.

    Our primary goals are to improve your mobility and help you achieve your previous level of independence for activities of daily living (ADLs). This helps to facilitate a safe and appropriate discharge from the hospital.

    Inpatient Physical Therapy Services
    • Balance training
    • Endurance training
    • Gait (walking) training
    • Patient and family education
    • Range of motion and strengthening exercises
    • Training on getting in and out of bed safely
    Occupational Therapy Services
    • Adaptive equipment and splinting
    • ADL training such as bathing, dressing and eating
    • Assessment of cognitive functioning (thinking) related to attention, memory and problem solving
    • Education for strategies to improve your ability to care for yourself
    • Fine motor coordination training
    • Upper extremity range of motion and strengthening exercises
    Speech Therapy Services

    Provides assessment and remediation of:

    • Dysphagia (swallowing disorders), including instrumental assessments (e.g., Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Studies [VFSS] and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing [FEES])
    • Aphasia (language deficits)
    • Dysarthria/apraxia (motor speech disorders)
    • Cognitive-communication deficits (e.g., memory deficits, executive dysfunctions)
    • Collaboration with other members of your care team
    • Provide patient and family education
    • Provide recommendations for ongoing care upon discharge
