The Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine
Sports Injury Rehabilitation
How successfully you recover from a sports injury and/or related surgery has much to do with where you receive your rehabilitation treatment. At the Center for Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine at Beverly Hospital, you will benefit from the highest quality rehabilitation care with a plan developed specifically to meet your personal needs and goals.
Our multi-disciplinary team is dedicated to providing one-on-one attention and clinical excellence as you recover from a sports injury. We offer leading-edge therapies that can be of particular benefit to recovering athletes.
Soft Tissue Mobilization
Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) is an innovative, evidence-based technique that enables providers to effectively break down scar tissue. The technique uses specially designed stainless steel instruments to detect and effectively treat areas where there is tissue damage from scarring.
Scar tissue limits range of motion and may cause pain, which prevents people from functioning as they did before their injury.
This procedure can be used to treat almost any soft tissue injury, including musculoskeletal injuries, trauma, tendinitis, repetitive motion injury, post-surgical scarring and more.
Function Movement Screen
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a system that specifically identifies areas where you have problems moving and where your musculoskeletal system is out of balance. FMS does this by documenting your movement patterns.
The FMS then generates your Functional Movement Screen Score, which is used to target problems and track your progress. This scoring system is directly linked to the most helpful exercises you can do to restore optimal movement and body mechanics.
Beverly Hospital exercise professionals monitor your FMS score to track your progress and identify exercises that will be most effective in restoring your proper movement and building your strength. This allows us to instantly create a customized treatment plan.
Low-Level Laser
Low Level Laser Technology (LLLT) directs a light beam to targeted areas to promote healing of soft tissue. The benefits of LLLT are to accelerate tissue repair, reduce pain and stimulate the functioning of your immune, lymphatic and vascular system.
Low Level Laser Technology works at the cellular level to reduce inflammation, promote cell growth, speed bone repair and help wounds heal. It provides temporary relief of pain and relaxes muscle spasms.
Concussion Care
Physical therapy can aid in the examination and treatment of someone who has suffered from a concussion. Symptoms of a concussion can vary and can affect a person's physical health and ability to think and interact with others.
Beverly Hospital and Addison Gilbert Hospital have introduced a comprehensive Concussion Management Program to help prevent, diagnose and treat symptoms of concussion, especially in young athletes. Learn more about our Concussion Management Program.
