Emergency Psychiatric Services

Emergency Psychiatric Services (EPS) assists individuals in crises who require access to psychiatric and/or substance abuse patient services, as well as crises intervention or stabilization services. The EPS team includes psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, licensed Independent Clinical Social Workers, and Licensed Mental Health counselors.  EPS is available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week.

Inpatient Services

The inpatient psychiatric services utilize specialized psychiatric milieus, which includes psychiatric, cognitive, occupational, and social work interventions designed to stabilize patients quickly and to facilitate their return to the community.  The inpatient services include 3 distinct secure units, which treat adults 18 years and older.

Intensive Assessment Unit

The Intensive Assessment Unit (IAU) at BayRidge Hospital is a time-limited (24-72 hour) evaluation and intensive treatment program designed to help people in crisis.  The program has been designed to provide greater flexibility in identifying and accessing the least restrictive, most clinically appropriate level of treatment for individuals experiencing an acute psychiatric or substance related crisis.  Program staffing includes on-site psychiatrist, mental health nursing and case management services.  The program can provide emergency medication assessment and monitoring, diagnostic assessment, individual and family treatment interventions, treatment linkage, referral and discharge planning.  This service is located in a distinct, secure unit of the hospital adjacent to BayRidge I.

Psychiatric Services

BRII, a 31 bed psychiatric unit, has special expertise in safely managing and treating the most acute and severe psychiatric conditions, with attention to identifying the ongoing needs of individuals with persistent mental illness.  Ongoing treaters, families, and other supports are routinely involved in this process.

Dual Diagnosis and Addiction Services

BRI, which has 24 beds dedicated to the care of the Dual Diagnosis patient, offers concurrent treatment of addiction and psychiatric symptoms.  Typical goals are to detoxify the patient from alcohol or drugs, assess and stabilize psychiatric symptoms, and engage the patient in a more comprehensive plan for continued recovery.

A multi-disciplinary team comprised of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, licensed clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, and mental health counselors staff each inpatient unit.  The multi-disciplinary team works collaboratively to design and implement an individualized treatment plan to facilitate transition to the next level of care.

Partial Hospitalization Program

The Partial Hospitalization Program serves patients ages eighteen (18) and older who have acute psychiatric and/or addiction problems.  The program can be used as an alternative to inpatient care to shorten inpatient stays by providing intensive aftercare.  Program hours are 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.  The Adult Program provides structured tasks and psycho-educational groups, psychopharmacological intervention, family meetings, and intensive case management.  Lengths of stay are individualized to patients' specific needs.
